Headline sponsor to the Irish Skipper Expo 2024, Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), the State agency responsible for developing the Irish seafood industry, will be showcasing its extensive range of supports and services at this year’s highly-anticipated event.
Supported by the European Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF), BIM staff are looking forward to discussing funding opportunities, training programmes, and other essential business support services with this year’s visitors.
A display of a life-size lobster gauge is a feature of the BIM stand this year, highlighting the success of BIM’s fisheries conservation scheme with industry, with over 37,000 lobsters v-notched last year. The scheme showcases the industry’s commitment to responsible and sustainable fishing practices, helping to protect female lobsters to replenish stock while v-notched.
Visitors to this year’s event are being invited to visit the BIM Coastal Training Unit (CTU) to learn about the latest training and skills development opportunities. This year a large model of selective gear is being displayed next to the CTU providing a firsthand look at gear technology that is enhancing sustainable fishing practices. BIM’s state-of-the-art Aquaculture Remote Classroom (ARC) will also be welcoming visitors on board during the two-day event.
Taking place at the University of Limerick Sport Arena on Friday, February 23, and Saturday, February 24, the Irish Skipper Expo 2024 is the only dedicated trade show for Ireland’s seafood industry.
