With the imminent arrival of Workboat Code Edition 3, it is a requirement that crew have necessary competency qualifications and regular refresher training in not only skippering but also Electronic Chart plotters and Radar. You & Sea have SQA (Scottish Qualification Authority) approval for Level 3 Award on Maritime Studies: Use of Radar and Electronic Chart Systems in Code Vessels.

The SQA Use of Radar and Electronic Chart Systems in Code Vessels qualification has been developed with the Merchant Navy Training Board and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to ensure it is ‘fit for purpose.’ Whilst initially aimed at meeting the training requirements of the 2014 Workboat code, these units are suitable for any member of crew operating the radar and/or electronic chart systems, for example, workboat master, watchkeeper and crew on workboats. The MCA have confirmed in MIN 522 that the Radar module can be used on its own for the radar endorsement under the Boatmaster scheme. The courses are taught using the latest ECDIS/Transas Simulators with real charts and scenarios.
