Leading Journal of the Irish & UK Fishing Industries

Generations of artists have sought inspiration from the sea and that tradition continues today. The annual exhibition will feature some 400 paintings, with a larger number documenting Commercial Fishing and Fishermen at work.

In recognition of the number of artists documenting Commercial Fishing, there is a prize of £500 for a work in any medium depicting commercial fishing and is sponsored by Murray’s Accounting Services, a family firm of accountants based in Chesham.

The Winner will be announced online on Wednesday 30 September at 5 pm.

All works for sale, with prices starting from as little as £300.

The Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) is widely recognised as the focal point for much of Britain’s finest contemporary marine art and many of the country’s leading marine artists are elected members of the Society.

The common theme is the sea and tidal waters although, within that remit, members work is wide and varied. Subjects range from deep water shipping to coastal scenes, competitive sailing to quiet harbours, marine wildlife to still-life.

Some members specialise in carefully researched historical paintings; others paint en plein air, attempting to capture the essence of the scene at a particular moment in time; yet others work in their studio from copious notes and sketches made on location.
