With over 90 companies confirmed for the Irish Skipper Expo 2025, this year is set to be an unforgettable event. One of the exciting new additions to the lineup is Fishtek Marine.
Fishtek Marine is a conservation engineering company that unites award-winning engineers and fisheries scientists. They focus on developing innovative fishing gear technologies to improve selectivity and enhance passive fishing gear types.
Fishtek Marine has built a global reputation as a team of reliable and effective problem solvers. “By placing fishermen at the heart of our product development, we ensure that our solutions are tailored to meet the needs of both the fishing community and the environment.” This approach has led to high adoption rates and a strong standing in the fishing industry worldwide, which they hope to only build on over the next few years.
Fishtek Marine bring new innovations into the commercial fishing market. At the Irish Skipper Expo next year, they will be debuting new fishing techniques at our show and introducing them to fellow exhibitors and visitors. “We are excited to introduce Scallop Potting to the Irish market, a new fishing method developed in collaboration with fishermen since its discovery in 2021. We will showcase our new scallop potting system.”
As well as offering new techniques to visitors, Fishtek will also be displaying merchandise, gear, and a variety of products. “We’ll be offering free goodies and showcasing some of our latest pot innovations designed to help diversify the landings of the potting fleet.”
As well as,
- Scallop Potting system to catch high value scallops in pots
- Legislation-compliant Acoustic Deterrent Devices (porpoise pingers)
- Net and pot illumination for enhancing and diversifying your catch
In the last 3 years, the company has received media attention and success stories in three main areas regarding their products.
Disco Scallops: Demonstrating that scallops can be passively targeted by pot fishermen using lights in their pots. Potentially a game changer for the potting fleet to help them diversify their landings with sustainable, passively caught scallops!
SharkGuard: An electro-pulse device that reduces shark bycatch and depredation in longline fisheries. Trials showed over a 90% reduction in shark bycatch, which could potentially save 18 million sharks annually if implemented globally, many of which are at risk of extinction.
Pingers: Our well-known ‘banana’ pinger has become the preferred model worldwide, dominating over 80% of the Norwegian market and the U.S. East Coast monk fishery due to its superior durability and design. We are gaining media attention for our efforts in Asia and South America to reduce fisheries conflict with freshwater dolphin species, and we aim to strengthen our presence in the UK and Ireland in 2025.
