Kenbro boats ltd is proud to announce the successful handover of a newly built KB80 HDPE workboat to Richard Timony of the Seamanship Centre in Killybegs, marking another milestone in the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation, durability and sustainability in the marine sector.
The vessel was displayed at the latest Irish Skipper Expo in Limerick on March 21st/22nd where it gained a lot of attention.
Richard commissioned the build after viewing Kenbro Boats 6m vessel that was displayed at the 2024 Irish Skipper Expo. This 8m vessel was fully customised to meet the unique operational needs of the Seamanship centre. From deck layout to onboard systems, every element was developed in close collaboration with Richard to ensure maximum functionality and safety.
This latest delivery showcases the versatility and rugged performance of HDPE construction, offering a robust solution for training, rescue and commercial operations in demanding maritime environments. It was designed and built entirely at Kenbro Boats workshop in Co. Donegal.
The boat is 8m in length with a 2.8m beam and built to design category C. Boat specifications include an unladen weight of 1200kg, Max load of 2415kg, Max HP of 300hp and Max persons of 15.
It is built entirely from HDPE. The choice of HDPE as the primary construction material ensures a virtually maintenance-free hull, resistant to corrosion, impact and UV degradation – qualities essential for the rough demands of coastal environments.
It is fitted with a 150hp Yamaha engine, navigation equipment, essential safety features, removable jockey seats, which can be removed to allow for more deck space if needed. It also has an extra-large console, D fender rubber push pad, bow step with stainless steel handrails, towing post, A-frame and engine bar. It also features removable gunnel access hatches.
The handover took place at the Port Pier in Inver, utilising the recently installed EK Marine manufactured single boom crane.
