Having exhibited at the Irish Skipper Expo for many years, Mermaid Marine will return once again in 2024 to showcase their range of engines, seeing the event as a prime opportunity to meet existing customers, commercial fishermen, boatbuilders and other exhibitors.
Mermaid Marine is the Marine brand of Power Torque Engineering Ltd who run the division from their Coventry headquarters. Established in 1970, the brand has a long and established history in the marine market as one of the leading engine manufacturers, continuing this tradition with their UK produced JCB J444 engine range.
Discussing their expansive range of products, Mermaid Marine Sales Manager, Julian Osbourne says:
“As well as our JCB range from 80 to 160 horsepower, we are also proud to be the UK & Ireland’s sole distributors for the AGCO Power, Lombardini engines, Kohler power and Yuchai Marine, with engine power’s ranging from 10 – 950 horsepower.
“We also offer marine generators and emergency pumps as well as spare parts for both our older range of Ford Mermaid engine and existing current brands. We pride ourselves on customer relations, offering installation advice and assistance to all customers.”
With plans to bring the Mermaid JCB J444NA engine to the show, Mermaid Marine are continuing to actively encourage commercial fishermen to make the most of the grants available for engine repowers, with a number of customers successfully repowering their older Ford engine models with the more modern JCB replacements.
Highlighting the benefits of the JCB J444NA engine, Julian says, “It has been one of our most successful engine models over the years. This is partly due to its low running costs and high torque characteristics. Its ability to run an integrally driven hydraulic pump has also resulted in reliable pump options when compared to the traditional front mounted PTO options.”
