MEP Nina Carberry has confirmed that a high-level meeting between European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, and representatives of the Irish fishing sector is set to take place this May in Cork.
The meeting, scheduled during European Maritime Days 2025, represents a significant opportunity for Irish voices to be heard at the EU level.
Carberry has been in ongoing discussions with the Commissioner’s team in recent months to ensure the concerns of Irish fishing communities are heard in Europe.
Fine Gael Senator Manus Boyle, recently appointed Spokesperson for Fisheries & Marine in Seanad Éireann, will also take part in the talks.
Discussions will focus on key issues facing the Irish fishing industry, including the continued impact of Brexit on quota and the future of the Common Fisheries Policy.
As Vice-Chair of the European Parliament’s Seas, Rivers, Islands, and Coastal Areas Intergroup, MEP Carberry has made the resilience and sustainability of coastal communities in Ireland a top priority.
Her role in convening this dialogue underscores her commitment to ensuring that the needs of Ireland’s fishing sector are heard at the highest levels in Europe.
