Leading Journal of the Irish & UK Fishing Industries

As the UK’s biggest commercial fishing event, the Scottish Skipper Expo has become widely known for its diverse display of high-quality products and services from across the entire industry, and visitors to the 2023 exhibition were impressed by the volume and variety of stands to explore.

As the doors opened at Scottish Skipper Expo 2023 on Friday 12th May, a steady stream of eager visitors from across all corners of the UK and the wider European fishing community filed into the impressive P&J Arena, creating a real buzz in the hall within minutes.

The energy coursed through the aisles as people relished the opportunity to meet with exhibiting companies, as well as friends and colleagues, in a face-to-face setting. With 170 companies represented from 21 countries, the event offered visitors a unique opportunity to speak to a range of potential suppliers under one roof, something that customers miss out on when ordering online.

Visitor Scott Paterson, a fisherman from Aberdeenshire stated that “it was a great show, with a fantastic variety of fishing related equipment on display, along with those available to provide the knowledge about it all.”

The impressive boat display area, which spanned across the back of the hall became a focal point of the entire event, with Elspeth Macdonald, CEO of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation, and Mari Gougeon, Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, opening the show from the area.

Tommy Poleson from Poleson Marine, expressed his delight in his experience at the 2023 event. “It was an excellent show in many ways with great hosts and attendants. The event has a great feeling of community and appreciation between exhibitors – the 1st day after the show saw an order for a new boat from a new customer who discovered us at the Scottish Skipper Expo.”

Excellent business was conducted across the two days, with exhibitors noting the benefit of meeting customers in person and networking with other companies. Ash Bradley of ASAP Supplies explained, “It was great to back at the Skipper Expo in Aberdeen, particularly with our new stand layout and look, which made it much easier to talk through systems and provide advice on our products. This show has always been essential for ASAP to be able to showcase new products and understand the latest industry trends in the commercial fishing sector.”

Sharon Boyle, Commercial Fishing Manager for show organiser, Mara Media, expressed her delight in being able to showcase the industry in such a professional and positive manner, with the venue allowing for additional attractions this year.

“The P&J Live allows us to be creative with the layout of the show, ensuring that it is as immersive an experience for the visitors and easy for them to interact with each of the exhibitors. To be able to display three different impressive vessels inside the show arena was great, and visitors really enjoyed checking out the features first hand.

“I would like to thank all exhibitors for their tremendous support once again, after 11 years, the event has become a community in itself, giving companies a platform to network and collaborate together while also conducting their own business deals.”

Following the vision, Your industry, Your Show, The Skipper team are currently reviewing the feedback from exhibitors and visitors with the aim to continue to enhance the overall show experience  – check out The Scottish Skipper Expo page for updates.
