Leading Journal of the Irish & UK Fishing Industries

Scottish Skipper Expo exhibitor Charles Cleghorn Ltd is launching a new pump into its specialist target area, the UK and Irish fishing vessel / workboat industries.

Lube oil transfer is often done with pumps not specifically designed for that task, or over-engineered for the simple duties of filling bunkers from quayside drums and extracting engine oil from the sump.

To allow hot oil to be handled, such as when a fast turnaround is needed in port, a gear pump has been selected and can be supplied coupled to either a single phase or 3-phase motor.  Self-priming, with a flow rate of 50 litres/ min, the robust unit is compact and designed for use with 1 1/2″ inlet and 1″ ( min ) or 1 1/4″ outlet lines.

The company’s main focus continues to be on seawater pumps for engine cooling, bilge / deckwash, fire, vivier circulation, ballast transfer etc., with options for electric motor pump units or bare shaft for main or auxiliary drives.  Many other marine applications are handled, such as stern shaft seawater feed, gearbox & hydraulic system cooling etc.

Special requirements can be catered for.  Charles Cleghorn Ltd has, for several years now, supplied special seawater pumps with an incorporated direct drive magnetic clutch, for vessels where belt drives had to be eliminated.

Another project, successfully supplied in 2021, involved a standard seawater pump fitted with a hydraulic motor, with minor modifications to allow deployment at 500m depth.

With fuel handling pumps and a major range of BV approved marine ventilation fans, the company continues to offer specialist high quality pumping & ventilating equipment for the demanding marine industry.

At the expo, Charles Cleghorn will be looking forward to sharing its 50-plus years of experience with marine centrifugal, turbine & flexible impeller pumps, for the benefit of both long-standing and new customers.
