Leading Journal of the Irish & UK Fishing Industries

Visitors to this year’s Irish Skipper Expo will have the chance to meet a new exhibitor from the UK – North Yorkshire based boat builders Parkol Marine Engineering Ltd.

Anyone wishing to have a friendly chat with the boat-building experts will receive a warm welcome at the Parkol stand.

Parkol was established over 50 years ago as a boat repair company in Whitby. The company has now grown tenfold and is recognised as one of the UK’s premier boat builders. The team have wide-ranging experience of boat building from fabrication to engineering, electrical, pipefitting and project management. In 2017, the company opened a second yard in Middlesbrough to enable them to service unprecedented demand and build bigger and more diverse types of vessels.

Parkol’s bespoke products and quality service are underpinned by a 60-strong, highly skilled in-house team, supported by a hand-picked network of specialist contractors. They have built vessels for clients all over the UK, from the Shetland and Orkney Islands to Cornwall and Devon, and completed 2 vessels for the Republic of Ireland in 2021 and 2022 – 26.70-metre prawn trawler ‘Ambitious II’ for David & Niall Kirwan of Killybush and 22.67-metre multi-purpose trawler ‘Green Isle’ for Michael Cavanagh of Greencastle.

Parkol-built boats range in length from 10 to 34 metres, including twin and single rig trawlers, pair trawlers, gill netters, pair seiners, vivier crabbers, tugs, scallopers, pilot vessels and pleasure craft. Every new vessel is designed to each customer’s specific requirements and offers leading-edge solutions to enhance crew safety and comfort, fuel efficiency and productivity.

Everyone at Parkol have enjoyed the opportunity to work with customers from the Republic of Ireland during the last couple of years and are very proud of the fine vessels delivered. The team attending the Expo are very much looking forward to visiting Ireland and meeting new contacts at this year’s event.
