Leading Journal of the Irish & UK Fishing Industries

May marks the return of the biggest commercial fishing exhibition in the UK, the Scottish Skipper Expo, which takes place at the P&J Live Arena, Aberdeen from the 12th – 13th May.  Hailed by many as the most eagerly anticipated event in the fishing industry calendar, up to 170 exhibiting companies from 21 different countries will showcase products and services of the highest quality and from across the entire industry.

Now in its 11th year, the event has firmly established its position as one of Europe’s most important fisheries expos, attracting visitors from across the globe. Those in attendance at the 2022 exhibition expressed their delight in the entire experience, with visitor Stuart Goudie from Shetland stating, “Having not attended a show for a few years, I was very impressed with the new venue and the quality of the exhibitors stands. Well done again to the organisers.”

The P&J Live arena offers more space, better facilities and an enhanced overall experience compared to the previous venue, with visitors benefiting from a strong exhibitor presence covering virtually every equipment and support service currently available to the fishing industry. This year’s exhibition will see 30 new companies in attendance, reflecting the continued growth and optimism in the industry despite a challenging number of years.

Sponsored by the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation, the event will once again be officially opened by Mairi Gougeon, the Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs who relished the opportunity last year to speak to industry leaders face to face and gain a personal understanding of the innovation taking place.

Sharon Boyle, Commercial Fishing Manager for show organiser, Mara Media, said: “It is wonderful to see such strong exhibitor interest in the expo, which will ensure that this will be a fabulous show for everyone. After a challenging couple of years, it is important that the UK and wider international industry has a meeting place where productive business can be achieved in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

“Having taken on board the feedback from last year’s exhibition, we are delighted to have a number of vessels on display this year, offering visitors the opportunity to check out the features, speak to the ship builders face to face and also meet with the companies who supplied all of the products – you really cannot beat that interaction and all under one roof.”

Famed for its professional yet relaxed business atmosphere, the Scottish Skipper Expo will also see the return of the popular Show Reception on Friday 12th May at the Douglas Hotel, Aberdeen. Sponsored by Commercial Oils (Certas Energy), Yanmar (Trevor McDonald) and Sunderland Marine, the complimentary event promises to be the perfect opportunity for everyone to relax and socialise after a busy opening day.

Fresh seafood will be supplied by Messers J. Smith Fish Merchants, GJ Jack Seafoods and MFV Sunrise, and expertly prepared by the catering team at the Douglas Hotel. The event, which will feature live music, will be open to all exhibitors and their guests on an invite basis.

Scottish Skipper Expo 2023 will be held at the P & J Live arena on Friday 12th May from 10am – 5pm and Saturday 13th May from 10am – 4pm.  Entry to the event is free, and while visitors can turn-up on either day and register, it makes sense to register your attendance online beforehand and simply collect your badge at the desk on the day.
