Several Shipyards and Shipowners Have Embraced GreenOil Standard
The Ebeltoft-based company, whose oil filter serves as a green alternative to traditional oil separators, has become a key supplier of oil filtration solutions for engines, diesel, hydraulics, thrusters, and stern tubes. This is evidenced by its inclusion in 20 of the last 21 vessels built at Karstensens Shipyard in Skagen. Karstensens, deeply familiar with the North Sea’s unpredictable conditions and the ever-changing demands from politicians and customers, understands the realities of life at sea. Designed for Life at Sea
Daily life aboard a ship is also a cornerstone for GreenOil Standard. Their systems are designed with onboard realities in mind, offering an alternative to classic separators for cleaning engine oil, lubrication oil, and diesel. In most cases, the solution is a compact filter system that requires minimal onboard space. It reduces the need for maintenance tools, prevents oil spills during servicing, and keeps oil off the deck and boilersuits. Additionally, the system lowers the ship’s CO2 emissions and downtime — a significant advantage in an era where the fishing industry is under pressure from political and environmental demands for green transitions.
Widespread Use on Trawlers
After several successful installations on earlier newbuilds, the results spoke for themselves. Crews appreciated the manageable systems and their onboard stability, while shipowners recognized the value of a cost-effective investment, improved energy and oil consumption, and the future potential of a system that helps meet growing environmental standards.
Besides being chosen for 20 of the next 21 vessels built at Karstensens Shipyard, GreenOil’s filters have also been selected for pelagic trawlers like Sunbeam (Myklebust NB79) Liafjord (Cemre NB78), Selvåg Senior (Cemre NB75), Trønderbas (Westcon NB42), and the factory trawler Ecofive from Bluewild (Westcon NB41).
